March 19 – Coronavirus Update from The Arc

Mar 19, 2020

The Arc of Anchorage deeply cares about those we serve, our staff and our community in this unprecedented time of the worldwide pandemic of COVID-19 known as the novel coronavirus. We are committed to the health and safety of individuals served through our programs, and our staff who provide services 24/7, 365 days a year. As our community is experiencing change on a daily basis, we want to share with you developments from the last few days and to encourage you to utilize our Facebook page to get future updates from The Arc.

Yesterday, March 18, The Arc implemented directives from state agencies to begin no visitation at our group home and support living facilities to ensure social distancing practices are followed to help keep our individuals safe and healthy. We ask friends and families of those in Community Living Services group homes to use alternative communication methods until further notice.

On Tuesday, March 17, The Arc received a mandate from the State of Alaska Department of Health and Social Services to close programs that serve congregate groups. We have closed our Recreation Center classes, Sparc: a creative place classes, The Arc Clubhouse after-school program and a supported employment grounds/facility work crew to adhere to the mandate.

The Arc also cancelled all public events, outings and gatherings through the month of March and will postpone our annual fundraiser that was scheduled for April 24. We will provide updates when they are available and encourage use of our social media pages (FacebookTwitterInstagram) and to subscribe for email updates from The Arc.
